Loose the mercury
We all know how much nicer white fillings look. However, many of us have had mercury-amalgam fillings given to us and were never given the option of any alternative. Luckily, with the 21st Century technology we have at our fingertips, it is possible to provide strong, long lasting, and perfectly natural looking white fillings in a composite resin material.
A filling is a treatment that sees a portion of your tooth damaged by decay, taken away and replaced with a white tooth-looking material. It restores your tooth back its normal shape and function. It is the most minimally invasive option to restore a tooth when there is plenty of healthy tooth tissue remaining.
The procedure for a filling is performed under local anesthetic so you will not feel anything. Like any treatment, you may experience some mild sensitivity afterwards, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief and will subside within a week or so.
What happens if I do not have enough healthy tissue to restore with a filling?
Fillings work well when there is plenty of healthy tooth tissue remaining, but other options may be more suitable when your tooth has become badly broken down. In such cases, an inlay or onlay may be preferred.
