In Pain? Same-Day Emergency Dental Appointments in Yarm

Dental pain rarely waits for a convenient moment. If you are in pain, have broken a tooth or have had an accident, call the practice on 01642 782434 as early in the day as you can and we will do everything we can to see you the same day, during our opening hours.

We are a private practice on the High Street in Yarm. Emergency appointments are private rather than NHS, and we will always tell you what the appointment will cost before any treatment begins. Outside opening hours, please call the practice and follow the instructions on our answerphone.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

Severe Toothache & Infection

Persistent throbbing pain, pain that wakes you at night, or a tooth that is tender to bite on usually points to an infection in the nerve of the tooth. This will not settle on its own. Treatment is often a root canal treatment to save the tooth, or, where the tooth cannot be saved, an extraction.

Chipped, Cracked or Broken Tooth

Keep any pieces of the tooth and bring them with you. A small chip can often be repaired the same day with composite bonding; a larger fracture may need a crown, inlay or onlay once the tooth has been stabilised.

Knocked-Out Tooth (Avulsion)

An adult tooth that has been knocked out is one of the few true dental emergencies where minutes matter. Handle the tooth by the crown, never the root, and do not scrub it clean. If you can, push it gently back into the socket and bite on a clean cloth to hold it there. If you cannot, keep it in a cup of milk and call us immediately. Do not try to reinsert a child’s baby tooth.

Lost Filling or Crown

A lost filling or crown is rarely painful straight away, but the exposed tooth is fragile and can break further. Keep the crown safe, avoid chewing on that side, and call us to have it recemented or replaced before the tooth is damaged.

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

Call us first on 01642 782434 — we can often tell you over the phone whether you need to be seen straight away and what to do in the meantime. For pain relief before your appointment, take the painkiller you would normally use for a headache, following the instructions on the packet. Avoid placing aspirin directly against the gum, and use a cold compress against the cheek for swelling.

Some symptoms need urgent medical attention rather than a dental appointment. If you have facial swelling that is spreading towards your eye or neck, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding after an injury, contact NHS 111 or go to A&E.
