What is Crown Lengthening?

Crown lengthening is used to prepare a tooth for restorative dentistry or to cosmetically enhance a smile.
It is the removal and re-contouring of gum to increase the appearance of a tooths length above the gumline.

Crown lengthening treatment Teesside

If you attend with an uneven gingival margin and excessive gingival display, also known as gummy smile, crown lengthening can be performed to make the teeth appear longer and the gum line more symmetrical, improving the overall aesthetics of your smile.

Severely decayed teeth often create problems for dentists due to unavailability of sufficient tooth tissue above the gum to support a restoration. Crown lengthening can be used to expose more tooth tissue allowing the tooth to be restored accordingly. It can also help improve the retention of the restoration.

Crown Lengthening Procedures are performed under a local anesthetic so you will not feel anything during the procedure. Like any treatment, you may experience some mild discomfort afterwards, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief and will subside within a week or two.
