A traditional crown usually means two appointments, with a temporary crown in between while a dental laboratory makes the final restoration. At Enhance Dental Care in Yarm we use CEREC technology to design, mill and fit many ceramic crowns, onlays, inlays, veneers and bridges in a single visit — so you leave with your permanent restoration on the same day.
Same-day treatment is ideal if you have a broken or heavily filled tooth, a weakened tooth after root canal treatment, or you simply want to keep the number of visits to a minimum. Your dentist will confirm at your consultation whether a same-day restoration is the right option for your tooth.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC (Ceramic Reconstruction) uses computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM). Instead of impression putty and a wait for the laboratory, a digital scan of your tooth is used to design the restoration on screen, and a milling machine in our practice then shapes it precisely from a solid block of tooth-coloured ceramic.

Your Same-Day Crown Appointment, Step by Step
1. Assessment — your dentist examines the tooth, takes any X-rays that are needed and confirms it is suitable for a same-day restoration.
2. Preparation — the tooth is numbed and gently shaped to make room for the new crown, onlay or inlay.
3. Digital scan — a quick optical scan records the prepared tooth and your bite, with no impression trays.
4. Design and milling — the restoration is designed on screen and milled from a ceramic block in the practice.
5. Fitting — your dentist checks the fit and your bite, then bonds the restoration in place and polishes it.

Is every tooth suitable for a same-day crown?
Many teeth can be restored with CEREC, but very deep decay, some bite problems or teeth that would be better served by a gold or laboratory-made crown may be treated differently. Your dentist will explain all of your options at your consultation.
Does a CEREC crown look natural?
Yes. CEREC restorations are milled from tooth-coloured ceramic and shade-matched to your neighbouring teeth, so they blend in with your smile.
I have broken a tooth — can you help today?
Call us as early in the day as you can. Our emergency dentist appointments are available on the same day during opening hours, and a broken tooth can often be stabilised and then restored with a same-day crown.
